We teach designers to build their business capabilities.

We understand that managing a design business is never-ending. Client (and staff) demands are constant. Deadlines are never far away. And business management can become drudgery.

We also know that however enthusiastic you may be, the knowledge gained from workshops, mentoring and ecourses can quickly dissipate into the vortex of client-demands as soon as you return to the studio.

That’s why our programs are just a starting point. We work alongside you, meet regularly and are available online to keep you on track, and talk through any hurdles.

We offer three ways to learn: mentoring, workshops and programs.


Our mentoring gives one-on-one customised advice and training.

We provide insight and guidance based on our experiences: first running a successful design studio, and then mentoring hundreds of designers through the DBC.

We have two ways the Design Business Council will mentor and coach.

The Chair program: The design Chair is a four-month commitment for designers who want better clients to be more profitable. It involves monthly meetings to discuss your business. It starts with a set of agreed objectives. The meetings are scheduled, have an agenda and minutes. The accountability delivers results. Between meetings, we are available for phone, Zoom or email support as needed.

Single session mentoring: We offer a bespoke, single session, issue-based mentoring program for designers who want better clients to be more profitable.. This program is tailored to your needs. Some studios need help growing, others need help planning, and still others may just have a short-term staffing issue.




Our workshops are practical, tailored to your needs, run in your studio, with your team.

We have four workshops aimed at getting more work for your studio – each workshop just approaches the challenge from a different perspective.  The content is relevant to the whole studio team and makes a great learning experience. Skype mentoring sessions after the workshop keep you energised and help implement the strategies.

DBC offers two structured, mentored programs that will improve your design studio business performance. Both are available online, 24/7 so you can continue to earn while you learn.

These programs are delivered by the Design Business School – the only business school for designers. The content is written by Australian design practitioners based on industry-insights, specifically for Australian design studios. The content is a minimum of theory and an abundance of practical work designed to be done inhouse. The takeaways are practical tools, resources and skills designers will use every day.

We were excited to commence the Design Business School with Greg as it gave us an opportunity for the team as a whole to come together – separate to talking about specific projects. While we were a little unsure as to how the content would relate to all the staff, it proved to be a great learning experience for us all.
