You design everything else, why aren’t you designing your mental health?
Some days work is hard and home is great. Then it flops. And then it flops again. And sometimes it all goes to hell in a hand basket and everything is crap.
The creative industry is arguably more prone to mental health issues because we live on an emotional edge. We design with empathy and when we don’t get empathy in return, we hurt.
So, is there a fix?
Whether you’re a studio owner or a designer on staff, good mental health is a challenge. And it’s not just all about you, we all have a responsibility to recognise, and act on, any potential problems in our team and in our studio.
But what do you do when you see a colleague stressed by work?
How does a studio owner deal with mental health issues?
Are mental health days a thing?
Should you have circuit breakers during busy periods?
How many hours do you expect people to work?
Do you put undue stress on suppliers (causing mental health issue for them)?
How do you counter the stress passed on by clients?
We’re looking for answers
There are many answers to these questions and there are many more questions to ask.
Come to our Designing your mental health UNseminar to discuss options and listen to how others cope.
